crazy pantry

Love Crazy Pantry!

They often have "not so common" veggies like colorful carrots, swiss chard...and recently..beets! or I should say beet!

This huge orb (about the size of a softball) was only 145 yen (plus tax).

It was labeled as a golden beet.

When I cut into it there was a slight layering of white and red, and after roasting a little golden tinge and a little fluorescent pink.

We enjoyed this with an herb vinaigrette.

What are you enjoying these days?

I pounce on the uncommon vegs everytime one shows up at the market, and so far have tried purple carrots, yellow carrots, purple brussel sprouts, but not the multi-colored swiss chard (which isn't that uncommon elsewhere)...the purple brussel sprouts are less bitter but a bit smaller than the normal ones.

purple brussels sprouts sound interesting, Rowena, can't wait to see more brussels sprouts in general here.

Take care.
